ABOUT LONGRIDGE SOAP BOX DERBY

AN EVENT NOT TO BE MISSED

IMG_0111.JPG

Longridge is again getting a healthy dose of creativity, showmanship, engineering excellence (?) and daring this year as SoapBox Racing comes to town on Sunday 15th September 2024. The SoapBox Derby is a free to attend event, aiming to bring all manner of thrills and spills to our great town and is being brought to by local charity, St Catherine’s Hospice together with the help of Love Longridge (a not-for-profit business group which aims to support commerce in Longridge)

This is the third year for Longridge SoapBox Derby and will see a racetrack being built down Berry Lane for the enjoyment of families near and far. There will be food, music, entertainment picnic facilities and, above all, the race teams who are bringing all of their design skills and creativity together for your enjoyment. Stay a while after the race and enjoy the awards ceremony, together with some great music, on our purpose-built stage.

Thousands of spectators are expected from all over the Ribble Valley and beyond to cheer on the weird, wacky and wonderful SoapBox entrants, who can enjoy watching carefully crafted karts being hurtled down a track which will consist of chicanes, jumps, water features and more.

2022 and 2023 was a great success and this year we are making things even better – more entertainment, more live video coverage, more supersize screens, more facilities, more attractions.

Applications for teams to enter are now open with c.30 teams able to enter the race and to prove themselves against the other competitors. Prizes will include ‘fastest winner’, ‘best dressed’, ‘most innovative design’ and more.
